Erling freezes. There’s someone, something, behind him. Not the dragon, but nothing human either. He tries to breathe through the fear constricting his throat.
“It’s not a trap,” he manages through gritted teeth. “And you’re not a dragon.”
Erling feels the breath of the creature tickle his neck as it chuckles, an amused, dark sound.
