Assigned as Ruth’s guard, it doesn’t take long until I understand she doesn’t want to be protected: not from me, and certainly not from herself. A complication which could cost me my life if I give in… and my sanity if I don’t.
When she wants to explore everything she’s been deprived of, I’m happy to oblige. Things go great until everything goes sideways, and emotions push between our agreement.
As far as I’m concerned, I claimed her as mine — though Ruth disagrees.
Just as the political tension is about to snap, I realize that “no strings attached” doesn’t mean our choices don’t come with serious consequences.
