"Happiness and Other Diseases" is a dark fantasy with elements of horror, fantasy, dark romance, and paranormal erotica. It is based in Greco-Roman mythology. It tells the tale of Flynn Keahi, a mortal who becomes embroiled in a power struggle between the gods of Demos Oneiroi, a part of the Underworld where the dream deities and their minions reside.
Normally, these creatures feed on human desire and emotion in the world of sleep and their food generally survives the experience. Now, that's starting to change. A few of the less friendly denizens of the Demos Oneiroi have become dissatisfied with limiting their existence to the realm of human nightmares, and are using blood rituals and human sacrifices in their attempts to walk the earth.
Flynn winds up in a life-and-death situation when his innately masochistic tendencies attract certain of these creatures. The higher gods determine that the fate of these creatures will be tied to his own. One creature, Mercy, intends him harm. Another, Happiness aka Charlotte Metaxas, wants to protect him but is constantly distracted by her craven sexual desires and her need to feed.
