Our Cursed Gifts by Guerric Haché
Earth is derelict and forgotten. Its civilizations collapsed long ago, leaving behind a network of machines and ruins its remaining inhabitants barely understand. As unknowable gods watch the planet from space and strange sorcery runs in the blood of what few humans remain, three people struggle to make their way in the new world that has grown over the old.

An alien whose ancestors were stranded on Earth during the apocalypse is on a mission, but when his team is spotted, humans and gods alike conspire to remind the aliens that they are not welcome here.

A woman is on the road to a new life, but it seems she can't quite escape her old ways - and she senses something following her from the corner of her eye, something staring at her from the shadows.

A boy barely of age spends his life peacefully in his village, relying on his sister whenever their parents are absent. Their journeys had remained explained until now, when a force more dangerous than violence follows their parents home.

These three short stories introduce a science-fantasy world of ruins and wilderness; lost technologies and mythical beings; and broken, dangerous people. This world and its characters will be revisited in future works.
