Demon with a Glass Hand by Marshall Rogers
A robot from twenty thousand years in the future, that has been programmed to think of itself as a man named Trent, escapes through a time mirror into the past with seventy billion human beings encoded onto a wire inside of him. He is fleeing an invasion by an alien race called the Kyben who wish to exterminate humanity. The humans came up with the ploy to send Trent into the past after releasing a plague which would decimate the Kyben and any humans left, but dissipates after a period of twenty thousand years. The Kyben send assassins through the time mirror to kill Trent and confiscate his glass hand which acts as a computer with the information to answer his questions stored in it, as Trent suffers from amnesia. Trent is successful in dispatching the assassins and destroying the time mirror, recovering the missing parts of his glass hand which inform that he is actually a robot and not a man. Trent despairs of facing twenty thousand years alone. This is Harlan Ellison's original version, not the rewritten script that aired on THE OUTER LIMITS October 17, 1964.
