Stop whining, don't look for handouts, quit hoping for someone to rescue me.
It's what I've been told all my life.
But I guess no one told my uncle, because when I call him in desperation, he doesn't lecture me about independence. He just comes for me. Whisks me away, takes care of everything, and then says he wants to take care of me, too.
All my anxieties quiet when I put myself in his hands—literally. Because when he says he’ll take care of me, it turns out he doesn’t just mean call my insurance company and give me his guest room. He wants to be hands-on.
Very hands-on.
Treating me with the same devoted attention he gives the beautiful things he carves from wood.
Making me feel like one of those treasured creations.
Making me feel like I'm meant to be his... forever.
