Scientists have genetically engineered five human-hybrid races known as werewolves, vampires, dragons, sensers and wendigoes. The first four races live amongst humans in a sometimes volatile peace. Wendigoes are cannibals who kill other races and have been at war with them for decades.

Temerin joins a newly formed HyCO, an organisation that traditionally has a reputation for harassing hybrids. Lachlan is a dragon. The two of them become lovers, neither knowing the truth of the other.

Temerin thought he would be solving crimes and helping the people of Invercade in his new job but the HyCO leader seems determined to get into fights with the other species’ and Lachlan’s brother is among the hybrids who are growing increasingly angry about this.

Temerin and Lachlan’s relationship risks being torn apart by friends, family and colleagues who are not only against them being together but are heading for a violent confrontation. When a wendigo appears and starts a killing spree Temerin’s HyCO is brought in to hunt for the monster. As events escalate will Temerin and Lachlan find a way to stay together and will they both survive?
