For Sergeant Ben Warner, working his first night shift as a police officer in a small English village, the message seems alarming. His superior, however, tells him not to worry. After all, Fenford Cottage has been abandoned for years, and no-one lives there. The call can, as always, be safely ignored.
But Ben's determined to investigate. As he heads out to the cottage in the dead of night, he has no idea that he's about to find himself drawn into the heart of a terrifying mystery. Fenford Cottage might have been abandoned, but that doesn't mean that it's entirely empty. And when he meets the mysterious Mary, Ben quickly discovers that dark forces are at work.
