Tom and Nicole live the quiet life in rural Indiana when they are unexpectantly confronted with a nuclear war. Tom, an avid prepper, manages to make it home from work just as a nuclear detonation takes out the military base where he works. Together the couple manage to survive the nuclear fallout in a basement shelter along with their Labrador Retriever, Curly. In a world now almost entirely devoid of human and animal life, they gradually learn to provide for themselves. When they are joined by their nephew and his wife, the four work together to overcome the weather, food shortages and a small group of depraved survivors.
