Devaytis by Maria Rodziewiczówna
Excerpt from Devaytis

It was Saturday evening, a delightful time for labouring people and cattle. From the fields came old fashioned ploughs, working oxen, waggons, small horses, tall young men with scythes on their shoulders, swarthy, gold haired girls with songs on their lips, and children driving cows and sheep to their rest under the straw roofs of their stables.
