這本短篇小說集敘述的，不只是以八○年代中華商場為時空背景的故事，也並非為了遙想過去的回憶；而是每段故事中的人物，皆從過去的記憶裡找尋對現實的救贖。作者或許想傳達的是，孩子會經過許多傷害性的事物，才漸漸得以長大（或永遠受傷），而這些記憶將成為他們人生中重要的場景，不再因任何理由而消逝，彷彿某種魔術時刻。
