Steamy Excerpt:
“Do you have children?”
“No.” Meera shook her head. “I was married, but my husband died a few years ago. He was never really interested in having children with me. I mean, he was, he just . . .” It felt shameful to say it.
“He was what?” Avery pressed on, curiously.
“He wasn't attracted to me.”
“Why not?”
“I don't know,” was all she could think of to say.
“You have nice child birthing hips, large teats, and a healthy frame. What's not to be attracted to?”
Meera's cheeks grew warm from Avery's words. She had never thought of her body like that before, or heard a man talk about it in such a way. It made her feel . . . happy? “I'll be your mate,” she said without even thinking about it. It was like the words had come out on their own. Meera felt like she hadn't even opened her mouth, but she heard her voice say them, none the less.
“Good. I was worried you wouldn't want to.” Avery stood up, moving to sit beside Meera. His closeness made her tense. She could feel the warmth radiating from his body, soothing in the coolness of the cave. He lifted a hand to brush her hair away from her shoulder and nuzzled her cheek affectionately, sending butterflies whirling around her stomach.
Oh my lord, he wants to do it right now, she realized. I'm . . . I'm not sure if I'm ready for this. Afterward, I'll be a werewolf. I don't know if I really want that, but I don't want to die either. Stop it, Meera. What better opportunity do you have on this God forsaken island? You could never even dream of having a man like Avery in Brookacre. He's young and muscular and perfect, and he wants you for his mate. What more could you possibly want?
Avery's touch melted Meera like butter, and she gave little resistance as he began to undress her. He was more tender and gentle than her husband had ever been. To him, sleeping with Meera had been a chore. Avery seemed to count it as a gift, appreciating every ounce of exposed skin that she bared to him, his mouth moving to cover her pale flesh with kisses, taking her breath away.
