Lucien Miller wanted a mail-order bride, and so, turned to the infamous Mrs. Pettigrew for help. Mrs. Pettigrew was glad to oblige. But the bride sent wasn't what Lucien, or the townspeople of Nowhere for that matter, expected. Not exactly, anyway.
