Declan, a struggling painter, lives in New York City with his girlfriend, Grace, who’s a doctor at a local hospital. When the city slowly starts to shut down like an electrical grid, bit by bit, due to an unexpected virus, people start to get nervous. It gets worse when all Internet access is denied, and not long after, all TV stations disappear, and then to people’s horror, phones stop working. Declan doesn’t mind; it’s more time for painting. But what he does mind, and very much so, is not hearing from Grace for some time. She left a pager for him – the only thing working – and said she’d beep him every night to let him know that she’s safe. Declan wakes up one morning to find his face pale green; the first stage of the virus – so they said before the news stations disappeared. He needs to know if Grace is all right. He needs to know if … he is all right; the hallucinations are getting worse.
