Red Card and Other Stories by S.L. Gilbow
In this collection of five short stories you will find a little dystopian fiction, a little science fiction, a little fantasy, and a little magical realism. Linda Jackson is a shy librarian who has just killed her husband and is on her way to turn in her red card. Jerry Morgan is the owner of Grocery Delite and has led a good life, but he is having a difficult time coping with being dead. Cara is a substitute teacher at a local high school who has had to stop working because she sets off every alarm she goes near. Gerald Larson has retreated into a make believe world of online pirates to escape his wife's illness. Steven is an Air Force officer trying to make sense of the Bosnian War and a mysterious French soldier he met on a visit to the battlefields of Verdun. These are ordinary people facing extraordinary problems, just like most of us.
