Journey into Space, 1874 by Steve Turnbull
It is 1874, and air travel has been a reality since Sir Michael Faraday demonstrated his "Principle for the Partial Nullification of the Effects of Gravity" thirty years earlier. And now, with the financial and engineering assistance of the Brunel company, the Royal Navy are ready to send their first crew into the Void.

The first part of the expedition goes off without a hitch but when the three-man crew discover their assumption that they are the first men in the Void is false, their journey becomes a desperate fight for survival in the harshest environment in the universe: The Void.
