Pro Luce Habere: To Have Before the Light, Volume I by Krisi Keley
For eight hundred years, Valéry Castellane has known only one kind of light - the light in those human beings he's had to kill so he might live. The last of these has been the most brilliant light of all, the light of the one sent to tell him that heaven was never really lost to him. But did he destroy all hope for it in attempting to make this angel a human love he could hold forever on earth, or is the mystery of this vampire's salvation yet to be fully revealed? Sometimes the key which unlocks the secret of what's to come is hidden in the past.

Volume 1 begins the extraordinary tale of Valéry's descent into darkness, from child of faith who set out on the Children's Crusade of 1212 to desperate 14th century creature of the night, and journeys through two hundred years of medieval history, including the Crusades, the inquistions of the Middle Ages, the Black Death and the start of the Renaissance, as seen through the eyes of a conflicted immortal who will discover that even in the depths of despair, the soul can still be touched by the light.

Volume 1 of 2 (each volume is a full-length novel)

Pro Luce Habere is Book 2 in the On the Soul Series but, as a stand-alone prequel, its two volumes can be read before Book 1, On the Soul of a Vampire.
