The Last American by William C. Heine
Main characters survives multiple nuclear attacks from Soviets who have wiped-out the population of the Americas with a designer plague.

The action then follows one man as he gets his wife and two sons to the upper northern wilds of Quebec. Once they arrive there and learn of the utter devastation of the rest of the continent you think the story will follow the somewhat standard "survival against nature". But there are enough plot twists and story arcs...

This book is very compelling and pulls you in immediately. I found it hard to set down as it took me through the gambit of human emotions start to finish.
