The Pines by Robert Dunbar
A young woman alone in the woods is brutally attacked by ... something...

And so it begins.

Deeper in the woods, a lonely woman lives in a ramshackle house where she cares for her disturbed young son. As killings in the barrens draw ever nearer, she comes to realize that her son has a psychic link to something in the forest.

A small band of friends encounter a monstrous evil. Is it the legendary Jersey Devil? Will they flee ... or stay and fight?

This is a horror novel, often referred to as a "modern classic," which takes place within the New Jersey Pine Barrens. It is the first part of a trilogy, which also includes THE SHORE and THE STREETS.
