These are political stories. Blumlein is nothing if not humane and just. And funny. His signature wit is on full display. The man is a born barker, a pitchman for the weird, the provocative and the ridiculous. He’s a nature boy. He’s sentimental. He’s a student and a biology geek.
These stories are personal and historical. They track the arc of a man’s life and the lives he carries with him. They swim in the shifting current of American culture and society, from late last century to today. If Blumlein has something to say to us, it might be this: tell the truth, do a good deed, lighten up and stay curious.
Michael Blumlein is the author of The Movement of Mountains, X,Y, The Healer, and, most recently, Ageless. He is also the author of the award-winning story collection The Brains of Rats. He has been nominated twice for the World Fantasy Award and twice for the Bram Stoker Award, and has been short-listed for the Tiptree Award. He has written for the stage and for film, and his novel X,Y was made into a feature-length movie. In addition to writing, Dr Blumlein practices and teaches medicine at the University of California at San Francisco.
