Prime Minister Gabriel Bryce lies injured in hospital, a lucky survivor of the assassination attempt that has wiped out most of his Cabinet and thrown Britain's political system into chaos.
Elsewhere, a truck bomb destroys one of the country's most prominent mosques, killing hundreds. The only suspect is Afghan veteran Danny Whelan, now hunted like a wild animal for a crime he did not commit.
As the dead are buried and a makeshift government seizes power, both Bryce and Whelan realise they have become marked men, expendable pawns in a vast conspiracy intended to crush a rebellious Britain and usher in a new era of European history.
