Paper Children by James Fahy
My name is Phoebe Harkness.

When I’m not trying to cure the disease that killed the world, I’m roped into an unwilling role as ambassador between the humans of New Oxford, and the Genetic Others, all those things that go bump and grind in the night. I don’t get paid enough.

It’s been six months since the Duke of Sanctum, the infuriating vampire named Allesandro, upped and disappeared. Right in the middle of the Tribal crisis too. I’m still mad about it. But a new power rises at Sanctum, and the boy who would be king is bringing his carnival to our Halloween streets. A vampire pride march in a city fuelled by prejudice and intolerance: what could possibly go wrong?

Indeed, somebody, or something, clearly wants to cancel the festivities, and is picking off the vampires one at a time, and in messy ways. CSI hasn’t needed body bags, they’ve needed mops.

What kind of monster hunts monsters?
